Singapore: Bridging the Gap in the Smartest City
Singapore, often recognized as the smartest city in the world, thrives on seamless infrastructure, intelligent mobility, and technological innovation. However, even in a city that leads in urban planning, gaps can emerge. Kanarit was called upon at a late stage to address what initially seemed like a mobility issue but turned out to be a more complex challenge impacting local businesses.
In one of Singapore’s bustling business districts, a particular strip of small businesses found itself largely inaccessible due to the surrounding smart infrastructure and mobility routes. With low foot traffic, business owners experienced a sharp decline in income. Kanarit took on the challenge and devised an innovative, data-driven solution that not only addressed mobility but also enhanced wellbeing and strengthened the local economy.
The Kanarit Solution: A Multi-Layered Approach
Kanarit’s strategy integrated three distinct data sets to create a holistic solution:
- Wellbeing & Mobility
- Kanarit introduced a step-counting app, which was directly linked to the existing resident app.
- This app provided real-time insights into residents’ walking patterns throughout the city.
- Gamification & Incentivization
- A gamification element was embedded into the app, rewarding residents for their walking habits.
- For every certain number of miles walked, users earned points.
- Boosting the Local Economy
- The earned points were converted into local currency within a digital wallet.
- To drive foot traffic into the neglected business district, stakeholders could adjust the system to offer double points for walking in that area.
- This dynamic incentive system effectively rerouted pedestrian traffic towards the affected businesses, revitalizing economic activity in the district.
The Outcome: A Win-Win-Win Solution
By integrating wellbeing, local economy, and mobility, Kanarit successfully created a sustainable and effective strategy. The intervention not only enhanced urban accessibility but also empowered local businesses and encouraged healthier lifestyles among residents. Through this project, Kanarit reaffirmed its ability to leverage technology for real-world impact, even in one of the world’s most advanced cities.
Singapore’s commitment to smart living met Kanarit’s innovative approach, proving that with the right tools and strategic thinking, even the most developed urban landscapes can evolve for the better.
